AIAVAP heightens understanding of the creative process and promotes the growth of art perception, and the expansion of self-identity as well as the individual's role in the community. This kind of visual art curriculum develops skills such as critical thinking, sequencing, fine motor control, and analytical reasoning. All these skills enhance learning of other subject areas such as reading, science, writing and mathematics. Additionally, the curriculum fosters self expression, self esteem, and a sense of empowerment, and it's fun.
Arts in Action VAP Art Education Program is a process oriented visual arts program that demystifies the process of drawing, painting and sculpting in a logical and analytical way, empowering every child to create with confidence while having FUN. It builds basic component skills into a global skill that far surpasses the sum of its parts. The perception of edge and line, form and space, composition and relationships along with the creation of colors and the awareness of light and dark, negative and positive shapes, mass and volume, and the gestalt, are all the components that ultimately fuse into a finely tuned sense of Visual Awareness. Learning the Visual Art Language (as in the acquisition of math, reading, etc.) deepens children’s perspective and insight. That awareness is the heart of creativity.
Each lesson introduces the concept of one or more of these skills and concepts, along with materials and techniques for implementation. The subject of each lesson becomes the catalyst that helps a child see in a richer, fuller and more accurate way. When children look beyond their initial perception of a subject, they are free to effectively create what they see and imagine. These cognitive shifts into right brain creative thinking produce quantum leaps of intuition that are frequently revealed both on the faces of the students and in their artwork. These experiences are the key to unlocking creativity in every child. Visual Awareness becomes another language. It is this truly universal language that the children use to express who they are and how they feel about themselves and the world around them.
Arts In Action VAP is a NYC/Dept of Education, FMS Vendor #00025046860, and can establish artists in residentcy programs in your local schools.
